“Wow, we can make money by reading newspapers!” That was the first thing that came to mind after googling media monitoring. I joined the industry in 2013 as a media monitoring analyst at Trendreader. It is my first job. As an analyst, it is my responsibility to deal with clients. I’ve been dealing with many clients and projects since my first day, and have acquired some knowledge about client personality from my work experience.
There
are two types of clients. The first type considers their vendor as partner.
This type of client always seeks to discuss things with us, asks for our
opinion, shares their thoughts and finds solutions together. They also acknowledge us as analysts,
appreciate our work, and maintain good communication with the PIC. Through discussion,
both the analyst and the client can improve their knowledge of the industry.
And, the most important thing is, this kind of client respects our work time.
Meanwhile, the second type
considers us their servant. This type of client only causes problems. They
demand that we submit reports with tight deadlines without proper briefing. Sometimes
they make us do the reports twice because they are not satisfied with the first
copy we send. They also ignore our work time and demand that we finish the task
after working hour, which is not part of the project’s requirements.
However,
although I hate this type of client, as a professional I must do my job well
because I can’t choose the types of clients to deal with. All I need to do is
do my best so I don’t violate the SOW.
